Online first aid courses

Nebraska follows the federal OSHA rule (29 CFR 1910.151(b)) under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: no fixed first-aider-to-worker ratio, but where no infirmary or hospital is in near proximity the employer must keep adequately trained first-aiders on staff with supplies readily available. OSHA guidance expects at least one trained responder per shift, reachable within 3-4 minutes at high-hazard sites.

Nebraska childcare licensing (391 Neb. Admin. Code ch. 3, § 3-006.10E) requires at least one staff member with current CPR and first aid training on the premises at all times during operating hours. Oversight rests with the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health, Child Care Licensing, and online courses are accepted.

Under Neb. Rev. Stat. § 25-21,186, a person who gratuitously renders emergency care at the scene of an accident or emergency is not liable for civil damages unless gross negligence is proven, and there is no legal duty to rescue. Neb. Rev. Stat. § 71-51,102 extends good-faith immunity to AED use, except for willful, wanton, or grossly negligent acts.

The Nebraska Board of Nursing (DHHS, Division of Public Health) requires registered nurses to complete 20 contact hours of continuing education every two-year cycle. No more than 4 of those hours may come from CPR/BLS certification, which is explicitly accepted within that limit.

In Nebraska, CPR and first-aid training is built into the DHHS-approved 75-hour nurse-aide (CNA) curriculum, and long-term care, assisted-living and home-health operators commonly require the aides who care for residents to hold it. A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate meets this expectation and must be renewed periodically.

In Nebraska, the Department of Health and Human Services requires prospective foster parents to complete a pre-service training program that includes first-aid instruction, and a current CPR and first-aid certificate from a recognized organization is expected before a child is placed. Foster parents must complete 12 hours of continuing education each year to renew the license.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Nebraska for personal, childcare licensing, and employer requirements, with a 2-year certification validity. Federal OSHA accepts blended training (online coursework plus an in-person hands-on skills demonstration) for workplace first aid and CPR.
